In a region, long challenged by soil salinity, limited water access, and outdated agricultural practices, Ali Tareen Farms (ATF) in Lodhran has emerged as a beacon of innovation, sustainability, and smart farming. Founded and guided by Jahangir Khan Tareen, ATF has successfully transformed hundreds of acres of barren land into one of the most productive and efficient agricultural operations in Pakistan. What sets ATF apart is not just the quality of its crops, but the forward-thinking approach that combines cutting-edge technology with environmentally responsible practices to create a farming model that is both high-yielding and sustainable.
A delegation from the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) recently visited the farm and was briefed on its modern agricultural practices. They expressed appreciation for the transformation of previously uncultivable land and the use of innovative technology.
The remarkable success of Ali Tareen Farms was also highlighted in a high-profile roadshow held in collaboration with Pepsi International. The event brought together representatives from global and national organizations, including the United Nations, PepsiCo, JDW Sugar Mills, and several agricultural stakeholders. During the roadshow, ATF was recognized by Pepsi International with an honorary shield, acknowledging the farm’s leadership in sustainable agriculture and water conservation. Dr. Thirah Rungruang from the United Nations praised the innovations at ATF, stating that the farm had set a global standard for water efficiency and sustainable crop production.
The event also showcased how ATF has continued to produce exceptional yields despite major environmental challenges. The farm only receives canal water for six months of the year, and much of the land originally consisted of saline soil considered unsuitable for cultivation. Yet, through innovative irrigation techniques and a deep commitment to land rehabilitation, ATF has not only made the land productive but has also outperformed surrounding farms in terms of yield and efficiency. Izhar ul Haq Awan, representing Pepsi International’s supply chain and commercialization team, commended Jahangir Khan Tareen’s long-term vision and the consistent hard work that made this transformation possible.
Ali Tareen Farms is not just an agricultural success story—it is a proof of concept. It demonstrates how strategic planning, modern technology, and environmental responsibility can converge to create a model that is both profitable and sustainable. From the use of drip irrigation and mechanized farming to data-based crop cycles and community welfare initiatives, ATF presents a comprehensive, scalable blueprint for modern agriculture in Pakistan. It is no surprise that both academic experts and global corporations are taking note.
As Pakistan faces mounting challenges related to food security, climate change, and water scarcity, the Ali Tareen Farms model offers a clear path forward. What is happening in Lodhran today could well be the future of agriculture across the region.
